We all do it.
We all put things off that we tend to know is important, but are somewhat easy to forget to do in the cold, winter months. It’s easy to! Here are some things that I have found are easy to forget to remember to do and that I am personally choosing to do before the beach filled, summer days are here!
1 ) Get a skin check
We all know the older we get, the more spots start to show up on our skin.
Living in Florida all of my life, I spent a lot of days on the beach wearing not enough sunscreen which resulted in way too many sunburns! (ouch!) Not only did my skin endure that damage, but in high school, stupidly, a lot of us girls used the tanning bed.
Like seriously, we have the damn beach and we thought we had to use tanning beds too? UGH.
I seriously hate that I spent so many 20 minute sessions under those ultraviolet rays, but there’s nothing I can do now to go back and take away those choices!
So, instead, I make it a point to make an annual appointment with my dermatologist to do a skin/mole check. I have gotten several spots taken off each time (not fun, so serisouly, stay out of the sun for long periods of time and out of the tanning beds!) and thankfully, they have all come back benign.
But even though those dark spots are taken off, I am left with scars. These spots take a while to heal completely and they eventually start to look better, which is why I try to do it in the winter. Also, I’d rather not put healing skin under harsh rays so it just makes sense to me to give it time to heal before I go in the sun at the pool or on our white, sandy beaches!
2) Use Sunscreen
So this is completely obvious during those days the heat is sweltering, but it is so hard to remember that the sun still shines even when it’s freezing! ?
Even though it doesn’t feel like it, those sun rays are still hitting our skin.
This one is such an easy one to implement because the only skin that is being hit by the sun during the winter is your face! So just add some SPF to your moisturizer or even better, use one with SPF in it and you’re good to go!
Remember, do the easy thing now to prevent scars from #1, or even worse!
3) Workout
We’ve all heard the phrase, “the body you want for the summer, is made in the winter”.
This one is SO hard sometimes.
You wake up in the morning and you start to get out of bed, and then you realize its freaking COLD and all you want to do is snuggle back up under the covers.
It is easy to stay warm and snuggled up in your bed, but we all know that phrase is true. Working out isn’t something that you see benefits from overnight. It truly takes time and discipline. So if you are wanting to break out in swimsuit season feeling confident, the work has to be put in now!
These tips are more for me. I find that this blog is a huge for accountability and putting these tips on “paper” help me stay intentional with things I want to work on!
What are things you tend to forget in the winter that are important for your health?
