I saw this book, called “You Are A Badass” by Jen Sincero that came across my IG feed for several months.
It always peaked my interest, just by the title! I mean, come on, “You Are A Badass” is freaking catchy!
But until recently, thanks to Audible, I never found the time or energy to read. I would get to the point at night that both kids were in bed (FINALLY!) but just couldn’t keep my eyes open long enough to read. And you can forget being able to read during the day.
Not. Gonna. Happen.
So I found out about Audible and have been using that ever since. I plug my phone in when I get in the car and whichever book I’m on, I will listen to that while I drive! Easiest way ever to read! I have successfully “read” 2 books so far this year – I know, all you readers out there are gasping at the lack of books I’ve read so far, but y’all this is HUGE for me!
After starting “You Are A Badass” I can see why so many people are obsessed with it.
Jen keeps it real! And I love when people write like that. I can appreciate a smart-ass tone and an upfront, nonsense approach, so I really liked it. A big reason why I picked up this book is so I could get a kick in the butt and get over my self doubt of not being good enough.
This blog has been amazing, even for the short amount of time that I’ve been doing it. But when you get into this blogging world, and really start picturing it as a professional thing and something that is more than just a hobby, it is all too easy to get sucked into a comparison trap of others that are ahead of you.
One part of the book, Jen talks about a scenario of 3 different chiropractors and how one makes $50k per year, another makes $150k per year and the other makes $1 million per year. Now we all know that most chiropractors generally do the same thing. Adjust the spine! Yes, one may have more experience, or maybe even live in a more expensive city, but really at the end of the day, the difference between the lowest and the highest paid chiropractor is how much they valued themselves and being confident enough to actually charge their price!
That’s the key. Confidence.
Being confident to know that yes, we all have room to grow and learn.
Hell, you aren’t living if you aren’t consistently learning.
But also being confident to know that you are smart. That you can do this. And that people do want to hear from you! There are many people in the field that you want to be in that are successful, that know less than you! They were just confident in what they did know and pursued it!
That’s what I needed from this book.
There was SO much more that I loved about this book, but that’s what I needed.
A boost in confidence.
A little pep talk to tell me that yes, there are many others in this field of blogging that are talking about the same things. Healthy living, clean eating and lifestyle. But that doesn’t mean that people 1) read those blogs and 2) don’t want to hear from ME!
So if you have been lacking confidence, here’s your pep talk. GO AND DO IT!!
And I’ll be right beside you. Learning and pressing on, too!
